Video and audio travel between your two phones over WebRTC, encrypted end to end with DTLS-SRTP. There is no cloud library of your living room, and nothing is ever recorded on our servers.

Frequently asked
Which old phones does it work with?
Most iPhones and Android phones from the last several years work great as the camera. As long as the phone has a working camera and can run the app, it can film your pet. The viewer runs on the phone you use every day.
Will it drain the camera phone's battery?
Live streaming uses a lot of power, so the camera phone should stay plugged into its charger while it films. Leave it on the charger and it can stream all day without dying.
Do both phones need internet?
Yes. Both phones need internet access to find each other and to reconnect, because the pairing goes through our signaling server. Once they are connected, the same home Wi-Fi gives you the fastest, most direct stream, and away from home the stream keeps working over mobile data or another network.
Can you see my video?
No. Video and audio are encrypted end to end between your phones. Our signaling server only exchanges connection details, and on difficult networks our relay forwards the encrypted packets without being able to decrypt or store them. Nothing is recorded on our servers.
Does it see in the dark?
Not literally. Night mode is a software brightening of the picture, and you can switch on the camera phone's flashlight for more light. There is no infrared, so a pitch black room stays dark.
How is this different from a hardware pet camera?
Dedicated cameras cost money, add another gadget, and usually push your footage to their cloud. Home Pet Monitor reuses a phone you already own, keeps the stream encrypted between your devices, and never records your video on a server.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. You can skip sign in and pair the two phones with a QR code or a 6 character code. If you do sign in with Apple or Google, your cameras are remembered across devices, and you can delete the account at any time under Settings, Account, Delete account. Pro subscriptions are handled by the App Store or Google Play.
